The Quality Foods Oceanside Generals went 2-1 in their three Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League games last week.

The Generals atoned for their home game loss to league leaders Campbell River Storm on Nov. 28 when they grounded host Port Alberni Bombers 6-3 on Dec. 1. Scorers in that game were Nolan Kehoe, Brendan Carlson, Brady Van Herk, Brayden Ross, Evan Dyce and Carter Johnson.

But in their next game, the Generals got mauled 7-2 by the South Division’s top team, the Victoria Cougars, at Oceanside Place (Dec. 4). Van Herk and newly recruited forward Oren Louie were the only scorers for the Generals.

In a Sunday matinee game (Dec. 5), the Generals hosted the Kerry Park Islanders and returned to their winning form, scoring a 6-2 decision.

It was a chippy game that saw both teams rack up penalties in the first period which ended in a 1-1 tie. Sean Brendeland scored the lone Generals goal.

In the second frame, the Generals switched to a higher gear and got their offence going. They grabbed a 3-2 lead and extended it with another three goals in the third. Johnson ended up with a hat trick, with Ross and Parker Kippenstein each netting a goal.

The Generals improved to 19-8-1 and remain in second place in the North Division standings.

ICE CHIPS: The Generals are at at home this weekend, hosting Lake Cowichan Kraken on Dec. 11 at Oceanside Place at 7 p.m. …. The next night, they travel to the Comox Valley to face the Glacier Kings at 7:30 p.m. … Johnson was named North Division offensive player of the week while Van Herk is defensive player of the week.
