Oceanside Minor Lacrosse excited for start of 2024 season

The Oceanside Minor Lacrosse Association (OMLA) is gearing up for a good and exciting season.

They will hold their home opening ceremony at the Howie Meeker Arena at Oceanside Place, Saturday, April 27.

The event will feature the minor teams of OMLA and will be introduced during a parade of the players. It will start at 2:30 p.m.

There will also be some fun activities lined up that include skills and drills, a fastest competition and scrimmages.

OMLA president, Rennee Allan, said registration this year has been solid.

“We’re excited to have returning players as well as new players joining us,” said Allan.

Later in the evening at 5:30 p.m., the Oceanside Sharks will play their first Pacific Northwest Junior Lacrosse League (PNJLL) home game and will take on the Cowichan Thunder. Ball drops at 5:30 p.m.

The Sharks have been recruiting and look forward to the season.

The team consists of Jordan Day, Michael Edwards, Rhys Edwards, Cole Kenzie, Zach Pasquill, Todd Cooper, Kaelan Fourneau, Blake Knoll, Rhys Galloway, Ben Tisdale, Mattias Hvid, Gavin Pendergast, Willem Whitehead, Branden Russell, Mason Baynes, Luke Davidson, Alec Pascoe, Carter Goodman, Braxen Ryckman, Aeden Pasquill and Riley Hammill.

The Junior B team is led by head coach and director Cameron Miller, assistant coaches Andy ‘Gump’ Reynolds and Jaiden Hammill. Trainer is Isabelle Poulin from Advanced Health & Sports Clinic.

The Sharks are also looking forward to hosting the PMNJLL All Star game on June 22 at Oceanside Place. The top players from all six teams are selected and will be split into teams to play a fun and friendly game.

• April 27, 5:30 p.m. vs. Cowichan Thunder

• April 28, 6 p.m. vs. Campbell River Ravens

• May 5, 4 p.m. vs. Saanich Express

• May 22, 7 p.m. vs. Nanaimo Timbermen

• June 2, 5 p.m. vs. Saanich Express

• June 16, 4 p.m. vs. West Shore Bears

• June 26, 7 p.m. vs. Nanaimo Timbermen
